Switching from SalonScale? Bring every formula with you.

SalonScale runs your color bar; your booking app runs the rest. This guide moves your color: every guest's formula history, your color lines and your scale. Sent your sessions to Square? Then your formulas are already sitting in Square's appointment notes, and On Hand reads them for you.

About an hour if you sent your sessions to Square. Screenshots take a few minutes per 10.

Checked against SalonScale's help center on .

1. Before you start (10 min)

In SalonScale:

  1. SalonScale runs your color bar, not your booking or your checkout, so this guide moves only your color. Your booking app's guide moves the rest.
  2. Bring everything over while your plan is paid. SalonScale says your formulas and session history are stored in your SalonScale account.

In On Hand: Start your free trial. In the Color Bar, pick the color lines you carry.

2. Your guests (10 min)

In SalonScale:

  1. SalonScale's guest list only goes one way: its help center shows guests added by hand or uploaded by an account manager, and no export.
  2. Your booking app has the same people, so bring them from there.

In On Hand: On Square: Settings → Connections → Square → Bring in. Another booking app: drop its guest list at Your guests. A guest who's only in SalonScale comes in with her formulas in step 3. Anyone already here is filled in, never doubled. Nobody is sent anything.

Doesn't come over: SalonScale's own guest list. SalonScale doesn't export it; that's SalonScale's limit, not ours.

3. Formulas & notes (About an hour on Square; a few minutes per 10 screenshots)

In SalonScale:

  1. On Square? Every session you started with “Add Session from Square” and finished with “Complete Session” went to Square. SalonScale says: "When you open the appointment in Square, you will see the formulas and color costs automatically added into the client notes." Nothing to export.
  2. Sessions you didn't send to Square aren't in Square. For those, email SalonScale from the account owner's email and ask for every guest's formula history as a spreadsheet. The email below is ready to copy.
  3. SalonScale's terms say: "You retain any and all of your rights to any Content you submit, post or display on or through the Service." Your formulas are yours.
  4. While you wait, screenshot each guest's formula history on your phone: “Clients” → the guest → each session, every bowl and its grams on screen.
  5. On Phorest? SalonScale writes each formula and its total into the appointment's notes there too. Save Phorest's “Staff Appointments” report with “Show service and colour Notes” ticked (the Phorest guide's step 5 has every click) and drop it here.

In On Hand: Connect your Square, then Color Bar → Import formulas → Your Square notes. On Hand reads every appointment's notes and every guest's own notes in your Square, finds what SalonScale wrote, and shows each formula by guest and date for you to tick. Nothing is saved until you say so, and running it again adds nothing twice. Screenshots and SalonScale's file go in the same place.

SalonScale's notes list every product in one row, bowl after bowl, with no bowl names. On Hand starts a new bowl after each developer and works out each bowl's ratio from its grams, so look them over before you tick.

Doesn't come over: Waste, your Bar Tab and SalonScale's reports. They aren't in the notes, and SalonScale exports them only as reports. That's SalonScale's limit, not ours.

4. Keep your scale (5 min)

In SalonScale:

  1. SalonScale works with its own Precision Scale and with Acaia scales (it sells the Acaia Pearl). Its older Original and Mini scales work only with its Classic app.
  2. SalonScale's policy says: "All scale sales are final." The scale is yours to keep.

In On Hand: Keep your scale. The Color Bar takes grams typed in too: each shade's grams, the formula, the cost and the ticket work the same either way.

The Color Bar reaches a Bluetooth scale in the On Hand app and in Chrome on a computer (Safari can't reach Bluetooth). SalonScale's Precision Scale hasn't been tried with On Hand yet.

5. When to cancel SalonScale (5 min)

Have this done first:

  • Your Square notes read, and every formula you want ticked in.
  • SalonScale's file in, or screenshots of everyone you didn't send to Square.
  • Your color lines picked in the Color Bar.

In SalonScale:

  1. On a computer, sign in to SalonScale's Business Center: “Settings” (top right) → “Subscription” → “Manage Payment” → “Manage Subscription” → “Cancel Subscription”, then “Cancel Subscription” again to finish. A confirmation email follows.
  2. Your plan stays open until the end of its billing period.
  3. Monthly plans aren't refunded. Yearly plans: SalonScale's policy refunds the subscription in full within 30 days of purchase, scale fees not included; after that, no refund.

In On Hand: Mark it done on your checklist. Your formulas are home.

Switching from GlossGenius? Here's every step. About 3 to 4 hours, over a week or two. Most of it is your formula cards.

Switching from Vagaro? Here's every step. About 4 to 6 hours, over a week or two, for a salon of four with about 30 services. Most of it is your menu and your formula cards.

On Square Appointments? Keep your Square. Bring everything else. About 2 hours, most of it your formula cards.

Switching from Phorest? Here's every step. About 4 to 6 hours, over a week or two. Phorest's own export runs by itself for up to an hour.

Switching from Vish? Bring every formula with you. About an hour, plus a few minutes per 10 screenshots. Vish's terms ask for 30 days' notice to cancel, so start early.

GlossGenius, Vagaro, Phorest and Square are trademarks of their owners. On Hand Solution isn't affiliated with them.

Can I bring my SalonScale formulas?

Yes. If you used SalonScale's Square connection, every session you sent is already in Square's appointment notes: connect your Square and On Hand reads them, by guest and date, and you tick what comes in. For sessions you didn't send, ask SalonScale's support for a file (the email in step 3 is ready to copy) or screenshot each guest's history. SalonScale has no formula export of its own; that's SalonScale's limit, not ours.

Does On Hand change anything in my Square?

No. On Hand only reads your Square's notes. Nothing in Square is changed, and nothing is saved in On Hand until you tick it.

What if I bring my Square notes in twice?

Nothing doubles. A formula already on a guest's book is skipped, and nothing already there is ever changed.

Can I keep my scale?

Yes, keep it. Step 4 says whether it pairs with On Hand's Color Bar yet. Until it does, type each shade's grams in: the formula, the cost and the ticket work the same.

Will my guests get a text or email?

No. Nothing is sent to your guests during the move.

When can I cancel SalonScale?

Last, once your formulas are in. SalonScale keeps your plan open until the end of its billing period, so there's no rush on the day you cancel.
