About 3 to 4 hours, over a week or two. Most of it is your formula cards.
Checked against GlossGenius's help center on .
1. Before you start (10 min)
In GlossGenius:
- Sign in on a computer as the Account Owner. A solo pro is the owner; team members can't export the guest list.
- Do every export before you cancel. GlossGenius says: "Reports will not be accessible if your account is paused, cancelled, or disabled."
In On Hand: Start your free trial and pick GlossGenius. Your checklist on Today (Move in from GlossGenius) follows these same steps. Write down your team's names exactly as GlossGenius shows them.

2. Move card payments to Square (30 min, plus a few days for Square to check your bank)
In GlossGenius:
- GlossGenius takes its own card payments, and it only works with its Pro Reader, its Tap & Go Reader or Tap to Pay on the phone. Other card readers aren't supported, so your GlossGenius reader stays with GlossGenius.
- Until GlossGenius's booking is off, close each appointment there by recording the Square payment: at checkout, “More” → “Other” (label it Square) → “Record”.
- No “Other” yet? GlossGenius is still rolling it out. Until then, discount the ticket to $0 and use “Cash” $0 → “Pay Now”, or the three dots → “Mark as Paid”. “Mark as Paid” skips GlossGenius's Rebooking Reminder.
- Ask GlossGenius support whether they'll send Square an encrypted file of your saved cards (each guest's “Card on File”). Square brings cards in once from a file like that: the Square account owner asks Square Support, and it takes up to 15 business days. If GlossGenius won't, guests save a card again in Square. GlossGenius's help center has no card export, so only GlossGenius can say.
- GlossGenius pays out daily, Sunday to Thursday, and payouts still pending when you cancel still arrive.
In On Hand: Open a Square account (or use yours), link your bank, and get a Square Terminal or use Tap to Pay in the Square app. Then connect it in On Hand: Settings → Connections → Square.
Pick a quiet day as your switch day. From then on every ticket (services, Product Use, retail) goes to Square. Square's standard transfers are free and land the next business day for payments taken before 5 PM PT.
Doesn't come over: Saved cards, your GlossGenius reader and GlossGenius's payment history stay with GlossGenius. Its readers only work with GlossGenius: that's their rule, not ours.

3. Your team (5 min a person)
In GlossGenius:
- Your people are in “Team”.
In On Hand: Team → add each person with the name GlossGenius shows and a 4-digit PIN. Past visits and formulas find each person by that name. Commission tracking goes on Reports → Pay.
Just you? Skip this one.

4. Your guests (10 min)
In GlossGenius:
- On a computer, sign in to GlossGenius as the Account Owner.
- “Clients” → “Export Clients”. It downloads a CSV.
In On Hand: Drop the CSV at Your guests. Name, email, phone, birthday and Banned all come in, and GlossGenius's stand-in emails are left off. Anyone already in On Hand is filled in, never doubled. Nobody is sent anything.
Doesn't come over: Notes and formulas. GlossGenius leaves them out of its exports; that's GlossGenius's limit, not ours. Step 5 gets them.

5. Formulas & notes (A few minutes per 10 cards)
In GlossGenius:
- From the Account Owner's email, write to support@glossgenius.com and ask for every guest's notes and formulas, SOAP notes too, as a spreadsheet if they can. GlossGenius says its support team provides them.
- Write to their regular support: GlossGenius's Data Transfer team "does not handle export requests". And ask before you cancel, since a cancelled account can't be opened.
- To see what should be in their file: “Clients” → the guest → “Notes and Forms”.
- Photos come out one at a time: “Clients” → the guest → “Photos” → the photo → “Download”.
In On Hand: Snap your formula cards, 10 at a time. On Hand reads them, and you check each one before it's saved. When GlossGenius's file comes, drop it here: On Hand shows how it read each column before anything is saved. If anything doesn't come in, send the file to hello@onhandsolution.com and we'll bring it in for you.
Doesn't come over: Genius Forms and photos have no bulk export in GlossGenius. That's GlossGenius's limit, not ours. Photos come out one at a time, as above; ask support for Genius Forms in the same email.

7. Your past visits (10 min)
In GlossGenius:
- On the web: “Insights” → “Reports” → “Appointments”. In the app: “Features” → “Reports” → “Appointments”. You need the “View Reports” permission.
- On a team, choose “All Staff”.
- Set the dates to “All”.
- On the web, download it or click “Email Report”. In the app, tap “Send” or “Email Report” and it comes by email as a CSV.
In On Hand: Drop the CSV at Your past visits. Each visit lands on the stylist's book and the guest's history, and nothing doubles. A name that isn't on your team gets listed: add that person on Team and drop the file again.
It includes canceled appointments, and they come in as canceled. GlossGenius says "future appointments are not included": those show up through the calendar link in step 8.
Doesn't come over: What each guest paid stays in GlossGenius's reports: On Hand doesn't bring the amounts in. That one's on us.

8. Your upcoming book (5 min a person)
In GlossGenius:
- On the web: “Settings” → “Personal” → “My Preferences”, then under “Sync to Another Calendar” click “Copy Calendar Link”.
- In the app: “Settings” → “Preferences” → “Two-Way Calendar Sync” → “Copy Calendar Link” (or “Email Me Instructions”).
- On a team, have each person copy her own link from her own settings. The link sits under “Personal”, and GlossGenius doesn't say whether the owner's covers the whole team.
In On Hand: Paste it at Your upcoming book, once per person (the owner can paste a teammate's). Today shows who's coming in. On Hand only reads it; GlossGenius keeps booking.
Keep the link private: every appointment on it carries the guest's name, services and address.

9. Your retail (30 min, plus a shelf count)
In GlossGenius:
- Look for a product list under “Product” → “Inventory” on the web (in the app: “Settings” → “Retail & Inventory”), to use as your checklist. GlossGenius's help center doesn't list a product export.
- GlossGenius's “Inventory Report” (“Insights” → “Reports”) is a PDF of top sellers and what needs restocking, not a count, and its “Retail Sales Report” lists what sold, not what's on the shelf.
In On Hand: Pick your brands: whole lines come loaded with sizes and barcodes, liters included. Tick what you carry, then count with the camera or snap a distributor invoice.
Doesn't come over: Your stock counts. GlossGenius's reports don't give you one to download, so you count the shelf once in On Hand.

10. Rewards (10 min)
In On Hand: Set up your punch card: every paid visit punches. Add punches by hand for a regular, up to 10 at a tap.
11. Gift cards, packages & memberships (20 to 30 min)
In GlossGenius:
- Gift cards: on the web, “Payments” → “Gift Cards”; in the app, “Features” → “Gift Cards”. Set Status to “Active” to see the cards with money left.
- Look for an export there; if there isn't one, copy each card's code, recipient and balance down. GlossGenius's help center doesn't list a gift card export.
- Cards bought before November 17, 2025 aren't in GlossGenius's reports. If you need those sales broken down, GlossGenius support can send a custom Gift Card Sales Report.
- Packages: on the web, “Catalog” → “Packages” → “View Reports”. GlossGenius says the "Packages Activity Report cannot be exported", so open each guest's profile → “Packages” and write down what's left and when it expires.
- Memberships: “Catalog” → “Memberships” → “Purchased” lists every guest's membership. They renew on the guest's card in GlossGenius until you cancel them, so as each guest moves: her profile → “Memberships” → the membership → “Cancel”.
In On Hand: Set up the same packages and memberships in On Hand (Rewards → Packages & memberships). Then on each guest's page: Packages & memberships → Already paid for one → what's left. Nothing is charged. Gift cards: keep your list and honor each card by hand.
On a team with separate bank accounts, the money from an in-store gift card went to the pro who sold it.
Doesn't come over: The balances themselves. That money sits with GlossGenius's processor, so nothing moves on its own: each card, package and membership is honored by hand.

12. Turn off GlossGenius's booking (10 min)
In GlossGenius:
- On the web: “Settings” → “Business” → “Locations” → “Edit”. In the app: “Settings” → “Locations” → the pencil.
- Under Online Booking: “Allow Online Booking” → “Disallow Online Booking” → “Save”.
- To stop one person instead: “Team” → her name → “Schedule” → turn off “Available to book online”.
- Point your website Book buttons at your On Hand booking page.
In On Hand: When On Hand booking opens for you, guests book on your own On Hand page. Turn GlossGenius's booking off that same day.
Keep GlossGenius booking until On Hand booking opens for you. It's opening to salons a few at a time. Disallowing also stops booking through Facebook, Instagram and Google, and your booking site stays up without taking bookings.

13. When to cancel GlossGenius (10 min)
Have this done first:
- The guest CSV, and the notes and formulas from GlossGenius support.
- The “Appointments” report, for all dates.
- Every gift card, package and membership written down, and the memberships cancelled.
- On Hand booking open for you, with GlossGenius's booking off.
- Your last GlossGenius payout in.
In GlossGenius:
- Then, as the Account Owner, on the web: “Settings” → “Subscription” → “Subscription & Billing” → “Cancel Subscription”. In the app: “Settings” → “Subscription & Billing” → “Manage Subscription” → “Cancel Subscription”. A short form follows.
- Cancel, don't delete. Deleting the account is permanent within 1 to 48 hours and erases its reports, guests and appointments.
In On Hand: Mark it done on your checklist. That's the whole move.
It ends with your billing cycle, and bookings keep coming until then unless you've disallowed online booking. Annual plans run to the end of the term. Pending payouts still arrive.
